About Kitabkhana
Kitabkhana is an independent bibliography of books on South Asian history — from the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughals to the East India Company, the Raj, Partition and after.
This is an independent catalogue. It is not the website of the historian William Dalrymple, is not affiliated with him, his publishers or his agents, and is not endorsed by them. The domain name is the only connection; his books appear here exactly like those of every other author in the catalogue.
Book records come from Open Library, the open catalogue of the Internet Archive: title, authors, year of first publication, number of editions, median page count, languages, publishers, Library of Congress subject headings and class numbers, ISBNs. We keep works whose subjects place them in South Asian history and leave out fiction, children’s books and near-empty records.
Eras and regions are assigned from the subject headings and dates that librarians attached to each work. Author dates and nationality come from Wikidata where Open Library links the two records. We publish no photographs, biographies or reviews — only bibliographic facts.
